HMRC ACCEPTS WORKING FROM HOME TAX RELIEF

May 17, 2021

HMRC has confirmed it will accept tax relief claims from people who had to work from home due to the pandemic during the current financial year.

The relief is available to workers who are only able to work from home due to the coronavirus with more than three million claims already filed by 550,000 people in 2020/21.

Afford Bond Associate Director, Tom Hornbuckle said: “You can either claim tax relief on £6 per week or the extra amount of costs incurred by working from home above this amount, as long as you can evidence things such as receipts and bills for all costs incurred and claimed for. These include things like gas and electricity, metered water, business phone calls and dial-up internet access.”

So far, half a million people have already reduced their income tax this year by up to £125, by claiming tax relief on their working from home expenses.

“We want all who are eligible to benefit,” said Tom Hornbuckle, “and it’s quick and easy to do online by using your usual Self-Assessment and / or Tax Return HMRC account.”
